Organizing your macos workspaces
Isaac Lewis,I recently got fed up with the long animations when switching between screens on my mac. I love the feeling of switching instantaneously between programs on my linux machines – could there be a way to get that feeling on macos? And yes, this is nit-picky — but sometimes the difference between staying in the zone and getting distracted is the number of windows i have to swipe past to get to the next step in my task.
I finally found Aerospace: a window manager that replaces the "Spaces" concept on macos, and allows you to manage many, many programs over multiple displays pretty much instantly.
I am using a mostly-vanilla config file, which means that I use my "alt" or "option" key to switch between Aerospace's workspaces. Each workspace contains a set of windows, arranged in a particular order. When I use, say "alt+T", I get to a workspace where I've sent my terminal windows. When I use "alt+C", I get to a workspace where I've sent all my messaging applications.
I highly encourage you to try it out. It's easily uninstalled, and it's made my workflow a breeze lately.
